The consumer confidence indicator in the euro area and the entire European Union in December 2024 went down by 0.7 and 1 percentage points, reaching negative 14.5 and negative 13.4 respectively, the European Commission shared in its final report on Wednesday. Both figures were in line with the preliminary readings.
The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) declined by 1.9 percentage points in the Eurozone, landing at 93.7, while it fell 1.7 percentage points in the entire EU, standing at 94.5. The Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) in the euro area dropped 1.4 percentage points to come in at 97.3, while sliding 1 percentage point in the entire bloc to 98.4.
"Consumer confidence declined for the second consecutive month. Consumers became notably more pessimistic about the general economic situation in their respective country and their intentions to make major purchases," it was noted in the report.
