The consumer confidence indicator rose by 0.3 percentage points to negative 14.2 in the Eurozone and remained unchanged at negative 13.3 in the European Union in January, the European Commission revealed in its final report on Thursday. Both figures were in line with the preliminary report.
The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) increased by 1.1 percentage points to 95.8 in the European Union and by 1.5 percentage points to 95.2 in the euro area. Meanwhile, the Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) in the EU also climbed by 1.1 percentage points to reach 99.5, while it grew by 1.6 percentage points to 98.8 in the Eurozone.
"Consumers' expectations about the general economic situation in their country improved slightly, while their perception of their households' financial situation, both backward- and forward-looking, and their intentions to make major purchases remained broadly unchanged," it was stated in the report.
