Europe closes lower after data

Major stock market indexes in Europe closed lower on Monday after the reports published earlier in the day showed a worsening in the Eurozone's investor confidence and business activity and the United Kingdom's private sector. Meanwhile, European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde warned it remains unclear if underlying inflation has peaked or not.

The DAX traded 0.55% lower at the close as Zalando SE plunged by 3.80% at 5:35 pm CET. The FTSE 100 fell by 0.13%, with Endeavour Mining PLC plummeting by 4.41%. The CAC 40 went down by 1.00%. The Eurostoxx 50 decreased by 0.73%. Pernod Ricard was the worst performer on the latter two indexes, declining by 2.74%.

The euro stood flat against the dollar to go for $1.07138 at 5:29 pm CET. At the same time, the pound sterling dropped by 0.24% against the greenback to sell for $1.24229.
