Major stock market indexes in Europe closed mostly higher on Thursday as investors analyzed the European Central Bank's decision to keep interest rates unchanged. Although noting that it is "premature to discuss rate cuts," the Bank's President Christine Lagarde pointed out that "inflation is expected to ease further throughout 2024."
The DAX gained 0.10% at the close with Adidas AG surging 5.74%. The Euro Stoxx 50 increased 0.40% as Nokia Corporation soared 11.23%. The CAC 40 advanced 0.11%. with Publicis Groupe SA increasing 3.61%. The FTSE 100 was flat.
The euro was down 0.40% against the dollar at 5:28 pm CET, trading at $1.08368. The British pound lost 0.14% compared to the greenback, selling for $1.26979.
