Europe ends lower after consumer confidence report

Major European stock indexes closed Tuesday's session with losses as traders assessed the latest report on consumer confidence in the Eurozone showed that the confidence worsened in January. Additionally, investors awaited the new manufacturing and services sector activity reports, scheduled for release on Wednesday.

The DAX closed 0.32% lower, with Heidelberg Materials falling by 2.94%. The CAC 40 lost 0.34%, as Ederned dipped 3.28%. The Euro Stoxx 50 declined by 0.31% and Air Liquide lost 2.28%. Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 was flat.

The euro dropped 0.42% against the dollar at 5:28 pm ET, selling for $1.08385. At the same time, the British pound was down 0.35% compared to the greenback, to go for $1.26645.
