United States President Donald Trump told reporters that new tariffs on the European Union will "definitely happen," without specifying the extent of the levies or the timeline.

"With the European Union it's a $350 billion deficit, so obviously something is going to take place there," Trump told reporters. "I wouldn't say there's a timeline, but it's going to be pretty soon," he added when asked about the timing.

He also talked briefly about the Panama Canal, noting that he thinks "troops won't be necessary in Panama." He then said that the Panama Canal "wasn't meant for China," and called attention to national security concerns. "We lost 38,000 people building the Panama Canal... and what happens? China owns it all of a sudden? Not gonna happen," he stressed.
