Natural gas prices in Europe rose 2% on Monday amid updated reports about the Nord Stream 1 turbine. Earlier, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that Canada had sent the turbine for the Nord Stream gas pipeline to Germany by plane on July 17 after repair work had been completed.
The previous week, Gazprom declared it could not guarantee the smooth operation of Nord Stream while stressing that it did not know if the turbine would be returned from Canada. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday that sending the turbine would violate the sanctions imposed on Russia over the war in Ukraine.
UK natural gas futures for delivery in August rose 2.35% to 205.000 pence per therm at 9:08 am CET.
