The international trade surplus in goods in the Eurozone stood at €11.4 billion in January, higher than a trade deficit of €32.6 billion registered in the same month of 2023, the European Commission's statistical office Eurostat revealed in its report published on Monday. In the European Union, the figure stood at €6.2 billion, an improvement to a year-on-year deficit of €38.6 billion.
The euro area recorded exports worth €225.9 billion, a rise of 1.3% on an annual level, and imports of €214.5 billion, a decline of 16.1% compared to the same month the year before.
In the European Union, exports landed at €198.7 billion, unchanged from January 2023. Meanwhile, imports plunged by 18.9% year-over-year to stand at €192.4.
