Russia confirms recording first Omicron cases

Russia's Health Minister Mikhail Murashko confirmed on Saturday the country registered the first cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant in the country from people coming from abroad.

Murashko also said that the Health Ministry is already developing new recommendations about treating patients infected with the Omicron mutation.

Meanwhile, the latest data showed Russia recorded the lowest number of coronavirus-related deaths since October 12 after health authorities reported an additional 981 fatalities. The country detected 24,946 new infections in the same 24-hour period, most of them in the regions of St. Petersburg and Moscow.
