The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Friday that it will be increasing its oversight of the Boeing Company's production and manufacturing, after previously launching a probe into an incident including one of the company's aircraft models.
The agency plans to conduct an "audit involving the Boeing 737-9 MAX production line and its suppliers to evaluate Boeing’s compliance with its approved quality procedures," up its monitoring of the "Boeing 737-9 MAX in-service events," and carry out an assessment "of safety risks around delegated authority and quality oversight."
FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker said that with multiple issues reported in recent years, the agency must look "at every option to reduce risk."
