The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to release around 10 million Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine jabs that were manufactured at the Emergent BioSolutions, which is under investigation for vaccine mishandling.

According to a report by the Washington Post on Friday, the federal health agency undertook an extensive safety review of the vaccines that were produced at the problematic plant and it has concluded that the doses were safe to be administered. Sources also told the paper that the released jabs won't be used domestically, but would rather be sent abroad, as part of US President Biden's global vaccine initiative.

Emergent BioSolutions is yet to receive FDA approval to resume production after it was discovered that some Johnson and Johnson vaccines were contaminated with the AstraZeneca vaccine, and more than 100 million Johnson and Johnson jabs have been put on hold by the FDA following the incident.
