UK's Johnson admits misleading parliament on Partygate

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson accepted misleading the parliament with his statements in the wake of the Partygate scandal, asserting he told MPs what he believed at the time.

The House of Commons privileges committee published on Tuesday Johnson's 52-page response to allegations he deliberately misled MPs. In the document, the former UK leader argued there's no evidence he was warned about the events at Downing Street that breached COVID-19 restrictions that were in effect in 2020 and 2021.

"There is not a single document that indicates that I received any warning or advice that any event broke or may have broken the rules or guidance. In fact, the evidence before the committee demonstrates that those working at No. 10 at the time shared my honest belief that the rules and guidance were being followed," Johnson stressed.
