France Unbowed Party Leader Jean-Luc Melenchon (pictured) said on Thursday that French President Emmanuel Macron should resign to overcome the country's "political crisis."
"For the first time in our history, the government is obstructing. Their goal is to prevent the vote on our law to repeal retirement at 64," Melenchon stated in a post on X. "Faced with such an institutional blockage, there is only one solution: Mr. Macron should go. We should not worry about democracy but about the violence that prevents it from being effective. Let the country choose," he added.
The French government's draft state budget for 2025, which included a €60 billion cut in spending, was met with disapproval from the opposition, which threatened a vote of no confidence for French Prime Minister Michel Barnier. Melenchol claimed that "in six days, the government will fall," adding that the opposition already has a candidate for the position of prime minister, Lucie Castets.
