General Motors Company and the Canadian syndicate Unifor have reached a tentative deal that, if adopted, will impact 4,300 autoworkers, with a rise of 20% for the base hourly wage for production area employees and 25% for those skilled trades, the union said on Tuesday.
Unifor Ford Master Bargaining Chair Jason Gale said that after the approval of the agreement, temporary workers, new hires, and all the employees of the Oshawa Assembly, St. Catharines Powertrain Plant, and Woodstock Parts Distribution Centre will receive "historic pay increases […] and significant pension improvements that will protect their living standards in retirement."
In addition, the agreement includes a decrease from eight to four years in salary progression and the Oshawa plant will remove the full-time temporary classification by August 1, 2026. Unifor said its strike actions will be paused to give its membership the chance to vote on the tentative agreement.
