German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel is worried that the United States may be prepared to start a trade war with Europe, the official told Deutschlandfunk radio on Thursday.
Speaking a day before the start of the G20 summit in Hamburg, Gabriel noted that his country wants to resolve any issues with the US through dialogue.
In a different interview in the German press, Gabriel stated that he hoped the G20 meeting will bring about new chances for cooperation. The minister said: "We need a new beginning for deescalation and disarmament," and added that the first meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump may be a good step towards better relations.
