New orders in the German manufacturing sector declined by 0.4% in April compared to the previous month, according to the preliminary report published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Tuesday. The figure experienced a drop of 9.9% year-over-year.
The mechanical engineering sector saw a decrease of 6.2% compared to March, while other vehicle construction experienced a substantial decline of 34%, greatly impacting the overall development. On the other hand, there were positive developments in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+12%) and the manufacture of motor vehicles and vehicle parts (+2.4%).
In terms of sectors, new orders in the consumer goods sector fell by 2.5%, and in the capital goods sector by 1.7%. However, there was a 2.3% increase in the intermediate goods sector. Domestic orders saw a rise of 1.6%, while overseas orders experienced a decline of 1.8%. Finally, new orders from outside the Eurozone fell by 1.1%, and orders from within the bloc decreased by 2.7%.
