Annual inflation in Germany clocked in at 1.9% in August, the preliminary report published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) showed on Thursday. The inflation rate contracted more than analysts expected.
Month-over-month, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell 0.1% compared to the July figure. The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices went up by 2% compared to the same timeframe a year prior but fell 0.2% on a monthly basis.
The data showed that energy prices in August 2024 were 5.1% lower than in the same month a year earlier, while food prices increased 1.5% year-over-year.
