German unemployment at 6% in December

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Germany stood at 6% in December, rising by 0.1 percentage points from the previous month, the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit) revealed in its report on Friday.

The number of unemployed people in Germany came in at 2,807,000 in the reported month, increasing by 33,000 compared to November and by 170,000 compared to December 2023. On a seasonally adjusted basis, unemployment was up by 10,000 on a monthly basis.

Underemployment, encompassing unemployment and those unable to work due to labor market policies or short-term work incapacity, advanced by 29,000 from the previous month and by 103,000 from the same month in the previous year to reach 3,581,000 in December.

Crude oil inventories in the United States increased by 4.593 million barrels in the week ending March 18, the American Petroleum Institute's (API) private data reportedly showed on Tuesday.On the other hand, those of distillates were said to have declined by 2.146 million barrels.
