German unemployment rate at 6.3% in March

The unemployment rate in Germany came in at 6.3% in March in seasonally adjusted terms, dropping 0.1 percentage points from the previous month's figure, the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit) stated in its report published on Friday.

The number of unemployed people in Germany came in at 2,967,000 in the reported month, declining by 22,000 compared to February and rising by 198,000 compared to March 2024. On a seasonally adjusted basis, unemployment was up by 26,000 on a monthly basis.

Underemployment, which accounts for both unemployment and those affected by labor market policies or short-term inability to work, saw a seasonally adjusted rise of 13,000 from the previous month, totaling 3,698,000 in March 2025. The figure marks an increase of 97,000 compared to the same period a year prior.
