The German government will respond to Poland's request to send tanks to Ukraine "with the necessary urgency," a spokesperson said on Tuesday. Earlier today, Poland submitted an application to deliver 14 of its Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. As the manufacturer of the tanks, Germany has the right to block the transfer.
Germany has so far refused to supply its own tanks but has allowed other countries to do so, as well as to train Ukrainian forces on them. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Berlin will "shortly" decide whether to send its tanks to Kiev.
