Germany: South Korea important Indo-Pacific ally

Georg Schmidt, designated to become Germany's Ambassador to South Korea, remarked on Monday that Berlin considers Seoul as an important partner from the Indo-Pacific region.

Speaking to reporters at an event held at the German embassy, Schmidt said that the ties between his country and South Korea are of utmost significance amid the deteorating relations between the United States and China. He noted the importance of both countries maintaining stable links to Beijing and Washington.

The event also saw Germany and South Korea sign several agreements on youth exchange.
