Consumer confidence in Germany is projected to see a slight improvement in October and go from September's negative 21.9 to negative 21.2 points, beating expectations, market research company GfK SE and the Nuremberg Institute for Market Decisions (NIM) said in their report released on Thursday.
On the other hand, the economic expectations indicator was predicted to observe another hit and drop by 1.3 points month-on-month to 0.7 points. Meanwhile, the income expectations indicator grew by 6.6 points to 10.1 points.
"After the severe setback in the previous month, the slight improvement in the consumer climate can be interpreted as stabilization at a low level," NIM's consumer expert Rolf Buerkl commented, adding that, therefore, this "cannot be interpreted as the beginning of a noticeable recovery. The current mood among consumers is generally too unstable for that."
