The United Kingdom's consumer confidence saw improvements in January, the latest GfK survey showed on Friday.
The Consumer Confidence Index reached negative 19 in January 2024, recovering from negative 22 registered in December 2023 and hitting its highest point since January 2022. The Personal Financial Situation Index for the next 12 months rose by two points to 0, while the General Economic Situation Index over the next 12 months grew 4 points to negative 21.
"Despite the cost of living crisis still impacting many households across the UK, consumers appear to be encouraged by the positive news about falling inflation. On balance, while there is national and global turmoil, the Consumer Confidence Index has started 2024 on a positive note," Joe Staton, client strategy director at GfK, commented.
