The European Union and Canada signed a free trade agreement in Brussels on Sunday after Belgium, which initially opposed the deal, voted in favor of it earlier in the week. On Friday, the other 27 member states also approved the signing of the agreement.
The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) was signed by Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.
"Canadians and Europeans share the understanding that in order for real and meaningful economic growth, we need to create more good, well-paying jobs for our citizens. Progressive trade agreements like the one signed today, will do just that," Trudeau stated.
