HSBC Holding plc announced on Thursday that Nuno Matos, its CEO of Wealth and Personal Banking, will resign in a major shake-up in its leadership.
The move comes ahead of Georges Elhedery's transition to the role of group CEO following Noel Quinn's departure. Matos, who has held various senior roles at HSBC since 2015, was among the contenders for the top position.
According to the statement, Barry O'Byrne, CEO of Global Commercial Banking (CMB), will succeed Matos. John Hinshaw, HSBC group chief operating officer, has also decided to leave the group and seek other opportunities.
