The Haitian government declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew after a number of gang members broke into the national penitentiary in Port-au-Prince, releasing several thousand prisoners while leaving casualties.
According to the government's statement, the curfew will last between 6:00 pm and 5:00 am local time from Sunday to Wednesday.
The local media reported that several thousand inmates left the prison and that at least a dozen people died in the process.
