Hamas' official spokesperson Jihad Taha said on Thursday that the militant group agreed to a seven-day humanitarian ceasefire after United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged both parties involved in the Gaza conflict to temporaily stop fighting , so international agencies can conduct a vaccination campaign in the enclave.
In an interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed news outlet, Taha emphasized that Israel also must agree to the ceasefire and not "evade or procrastinate and put in place alternatives by specifying places to start the vaccination process and not committing to any humanitarian truce.
On Wednesday, Israeli Channel 13 reported that Israeli authorities approved the temporary ceasefire in order to facilitate polio vaccination in the Gaza Strip.
