South Korea's acting President Han Duck-soo told CNN in an interview released on Tuesday that his country has no plans to follow China in its retaliation against the United States' tariffs.
"I don't think that kind of fighting back will improve the situation dramatically. I don't think it will be really profitable for the three of us, and especially for Korea," he remarked. Even though he believes that the tariff announcement was "a pity," he promised that Seoul would "negotiate [with Washington] in a cool way" until a solution is found.
Previously, the trade ministers of China, Japan, and South Korea met with an aim to boost collaboration among each other. A media report claimed that the three decided to "jointly" react to the US tariffs. However, while both Tokyo and Seoul reached out to the Trump administration to try and settle the issue, Beijing said it would "fight to the end."
