Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) announced on Wednesday in a statement that the passenger traffic returned to 80% of the pre-pandemic level.
The reading matches Airport Authority Hong Kong's projections, HKIA said. "During the Christmas holiday travel peak, the airport handled more than 160,000 passengers daily on 22 and 23 December consecutively. The 164,000 passengers handled on 23 December is a new daily record after the pandemic," it was written in the statement.
The airport further noted that flight movements went above 80% of the pre-pandemic level and stayed at that point since the middle of December, while a new record of 1,034 flight movements in a single day was hit on December 23. HKIA anticipates the passenger traffic to fully go back to the pre-pandemic level by the end of 2024.
