A fast-growing wildfire has erupted in Los Angeles County, prompting evacuation orders and placing the area under a "red flag warning," according to Cal Fire officials.
Named the Hughes Fire, it ignited near Castaic Lake and rapidly spread over 5,000 acres in just two hours. Cal Fire employee Ed Fletcher explained that winds, currently blowing 20-30 mph, were not yet strong but are expected to intensify. He added that the conditions are "super dry," complicating firefighting efforts, though crews are already working to contain the blaze, BBC reported.
The affected area is sparsely populated, with no casualties or property damage reported so far. However, Fletcher cautioned that if the fire crosses Castaic Lake, it could escalate into a "much more dynamic situation."
