Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Tuesday that the European Union "continues to obstruct" Ukraine peace talks between the United States and Russia, accusing EU leaders of opposing a negotiated settlement of the conflict.

Speaking at a press conference in Budapest after a meeting with Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu, Szijjarto ensured that direct negotiations between Washington and Moscow are the only path to peace in Ukraine. "If Russian-American negotiations cannot lead to peace, then nothing can lead to peace. It is important that everyone supports these peace negotiations," he noted.

Earlier in the day, Russia's chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Grigory Karasin, said that Monday's talks with the US delegation were "difficult" but "constructive."
