IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed concern on Thursday over the heightened risk to nuclear safety due to ongoing military activity near the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant in Russia.

"Military activity in the vicinity of a nuclear power plant is a serious risk to nuclear safety and security. My visit to KNPP next week will provide us with timely access to independently assess the situation," Director General Grossi said in a statement.

In his message, Grossi confirmed that drone remains were found near the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, approximately 100 meters from its spent fuel storage facility. He also mentioned plans to visit the site next week to assess the situation independently.
