United States President Donald Trump again denied being briefed about Russian Main Intelligence Directorate's (GRU) alleged hiring of Taliban militants to attack US troops. He said it has been confirmed to him this was "not credible information," going on to call it "another fabricated Russia hoax," invented to make the Republican party "look bad."

"Intel just reported to me that they did not find this info credible, and therefore did not report it to me or @VP. Possibly another fabricated Russia Hoax, maybe by the Fake News @nytimesbooks, wanting to make Republicans look bad," Trump wrote on Twitter.

His comments follow a report released by the New York Times claiming a Russian spy unit hired the Taliban to attack US troops in Afghanistan with an aim to get the country out of the region.
