A tornado that swept through Greenfield, Iowa on Tuesday killed four people and injured at least 35 others, the Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed.
"It should be noted that it is believed that the number of those injured is likely higher, but these numbers reflect only those patients treated for their injuries at designated alternate care sites," DPS's statement reads.
The tornado in question was one of several to strike Iowa on Tuesday, but Greenfield, a town located some 96 kilometers southwest of Des Moines, felt the brunt of the storm, with AP reporting that the tornado left "wide swaths" of obliterated homes, splintered trees and crumpled cars.
