Iranian Government Spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani responded to a question regarding potential direct discussions with the incoming administration of US President-elect Donald Trump by stating that the Iranian government "will do what serves our interests."
"We will do everything that serves the national interests of the Iranian people under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution," she added. "We suggest that the Trump administration avoid any path that ignores Iran's interests."
It has been reported that Trump intends to persist with his "maximum pressure" approach towards Iran, which involves imposing sanctions on nations and businesses associated with the country. This strategy is reminiscent of his previous term, during which the US withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), an agreement designed to restrict Iran's nuclear activities.
