Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba told Nikkei in an interview on Sunday that United States President Donald Trump is "eager" to visit Tokyo this year.
Ishiba went on to say that Trump also expressed interest in the Osaka Kansai Expo taking place in April, during the US-Japan summit in Washington. On the 7th, when the two held a press conference and released a joint statement, it was confirmed that Trump had received and accepted the invitation to visit Japan in the near future. Nonetheless, no further details were given with regard to the exact date of the trip.
Ishiba also reaffirmed that the US Steel Corporation would remain in Washington's possession, repeating that Nippon Steel Corporation will only be making an investment and not acquiring the former.
