The commander of the Gaza Division's Northern Brigade, Haim Cohen, officially submitted his resignation citing failures during the October 7, 2023 attacks, according to local media sources on Wednesday.
In his resignation letter addressed to IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and Southern Command leader Maj. Gen. Yaniv Asor, Cohen acknowledges his accountability for the brigade's shortcomings during Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack. "The results show, I failed!!!" Cohen wrote.
Cohen previously indicated his intention to step down, and former chief of staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi had not promoted him. The new IDF chief Zamir already named Lt. Col. Omri Mashiah as Cohen's successor on March 5.
