Israel is said to have launched airstrikes near Damascus International Airport and Aleppo International Airport in Syria, the local media reported on Thursday.
According to the media outlets, it is believed that Israel targeted incoming Iran weaponry shipments intended for alleged delivery to Hezbollah. The bombing is said to have hit main runways, disabling both airports in Syria. Local Syrian news reported that the country launched retaliatory strikes on Israel.
Earlier today, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad spoke to his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi, to discuss the latest developments in the region, underlining the urgency of Arab countries' cooperation in confronting Israel and its attacks in Gaza. The attack came after Iranian Foreign Ministry revealed that its minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian will visit Damascus on October 13 during his tour around the region.
