The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Thursday that two senior Hamas officials were eliminated in an airstrike in the Gaza Strip.
The military noted in a statement that the two individuals were leaders of Hamas' "general security mechanism," which is a secret Hamas body responsible for "exposing 'collaborators,' safeguarding senior Hamas members and assets within Gaza and abroad, and suppressing opposition to Hamas' rule."
In a separate operation, the IDF killed a prominent Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) operative who "led most of the weapon smuggling efforts for the PIJ in recent years."
