The unemployment rate in Italy stood at 6.2% in December, rising from 5.9% registered in November and declining from 7.1% observed in December 2023, the country's National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) revealed in a report on Thursday. The figure came in above analysts' expectations.
On a monthly basis, the employment rate grew by 0.2% among men, while it decreased by 0.3% for women. The overall employment rate declined slightly to 62.3% in December, compared to the figure of 62.4% reported in the previous month. Meanwhile, the economic inactivity rate dropped to 33.5% in December.
Over the three-month period from October to December, employment grew by 0.1% compared to the previous quarter. Compared to December 2023, employment rose by 1.2%, while unemployment saw a decline of 11.8%.
