Italy blocks DeepSeek with immediate effect

The Italian Data Protection Authority (GPDP) ordered Thursday that DeepSeek be restricted in the country "with immediate effect."

The watchdog stated in a release that the measure has been adopted "to protect the Italian users." Moreover, the GPDP also noted that it was opening an investigation into the company.

The decision comes after days of intense debate over the application and its latest model, DeepSeek V3, which has outperformed industry leaders such as GPT-4o and Claude-3.5. In the US alone, the introduction of the new model caused the market to plummet and Nvidia to lose nearly $600 billion in market value.
