JD Vance says Trump asked him to help 'save' the US

EPA-EFE/ALLISON DINNER

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance in an interview with Fox News shared details about the call he received from former President Donald Trump, who selected him as his running mate.

Trump said he believed Vance was the best person to help "save the country" and win key Midwestern states like Pennsylvania and Michigan, according to the US Senator. During their conversation, Trump made a personal gesture by speaking to Vance's 7-year-old son, a moment Vance described as unforgettable. "He actually had me put my 7-year-old son on the phone. If you think about everything that's happened, the guy just got shot a couple of days ago and he took the time to talk to my 7-year-old. It's a moment I'll never forget," Vance recounted.

The vice presidential hopeful also acknowledged the close relationship he and Trump had since the 2022 Ohio Senate race, which he won with Trump’s endorsement.
