Japan's industrial output up by 2.3% in February

The seasonally adjusted industrial production index in Japan observed a monthly increase of 2.3% to land at 102.2 in February. Compared to the same month in 2024, the figure increased by 0.1%, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) said in its revised report published on Monday.

The shipments index advanced by 3% month-on-month to hit 101.5 and increased 1.5% year-on-year. The inventories index came in at 100.9, decreasing by 1.7% compared to the previous month and reducing by 1.4% compared to March 2024.

The inventory ratio stood at 102.8, down by 3.5% on a monthly level and increasing by 0.4% on an annual one.

Japan posts ¥544 billion trade surplus in March
Japan's total merchandise trade surplus reached ¥544.1 billion in March, provisional data from the Ministry of Finance showed on Thursday. The figure marked a notable rise from the ¥349.9 billion surplus logged in March 2024, representing a 55.5% increase year-on-year. Exports rose 3.9% to ¥9.85 trillion, while imports climbed 2.0% to ¥9.30 trillion over the same period.
