British Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised Mikhail Gorbachev, the last president of the Soviet Union, for his "courage and integrity," after it was announced that the former leader passed away earlier on Tuesday.
Moscow Central Clinical Hospital said Gorbachev died in Moscow at the age of 91, having suffered from "a serious and long illness."
"In a time of Putin's aggression in Ukraine, his tireless commitment to opening up Soviet society remains an example to us all," Johnson stated.
