United States Representative from Ohio Jim Jordan revealed on Thursday that the idea of introducing a resolution to broaden the authority of interim House Speaker Patrick McHenry until Republicans in the House of Representatives find a permanent solution for the top role failed.
The resolution was seen "as a way to lower the temperature and get back to work," Jordan told reporters. "I'm still running for speaker, and I plan to go to the floor and get the votes and win this race," he confirmed.
He stressed that he plans to "talk with the 20 individuals who voted against me so that we can move forward and begin to work" and noted that a third vote to elect a speaker could be coming later in the day.
