A United States judge declared the Biden administration's student debt relief plan unlawful and ordered it to be vacated. The ruling was made in a lawsuit by two plaintiffs ineligible for the program.
District Judge Mark Pittman argued that the plan is "one of the largest exercises of legislative power without congressional authority in the history of the United States." The scheme was previously temporarily blocked following a number of legal challenges, including from six US states.
