United States District Judge Trevor McFadden ruled that the House of Representatives cannot sue the Trump administration in order to stop it from allocating Department of Defense (DoD) funds for the construction of the wall on the Mexican border. McFadden argued that the lawmakers cannot use the courts to block the transfer of funds as "the Constitution grants the House no standing to litigate these claims."
However, the judge pointed out that his ruling "does not imply that Congress may never sue the Executive to protect its powers." Last week, a California judge made a temporary decision blocking the administration from using DoD funds for the wall in Arizona and Texas until the case is resolved. US President Donald Trump criticized the ruling, stating that it is "in favor of crime, drugs and human trafficking."
