North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a letter of condolence to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on January 5, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Saturday. Japan was struck by a 7.5-magnitude earthquake on January 1, followed by aftershocks. Kim expressed "deep sympathy and condolences" to Kishida, the victims and their families.
Kim also sent a message to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi following a recent attack by the Islamic State that killed at least 89. He expressed his sympathies to the government and victims, and said North Korea opposes "all sorts of terrorism."
