Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured on Monday that negotiations with Japan regarding the peace treaty were "impossible" under the current conditions, as Tokyo "turned into an unfriendly country for Russia."
Earlier today, Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed Tokyo's commitment to resolving the territorial issues and concluding a peace treaty with Moscow, although bilateral relations are in a "difficult position."
Negotiations on the issue of the Kuril Islands came to an end when Russia canceled the talks as a form of retaliation after Tokyo slapped sanctions on Moscow in response to the rising hostilities in Ukraine.
