Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Monday that Russian state television company VGTRK suffered an "unprecedented" hacking attack.
"I want to express my support for the VGTRK team. Our state information holding, one of the largest, has faced an unprecedented hacker attack on its digital infrastructure," Peskov told reporters and added VGTRK is making "enormous efforts" to overcome the impact of the cyberattack.
Earlier, Gazeta.ru reported that the state TV company's online broadcasting and internal services stopped working this morning after it was targeted in a massive hacking attack. Meanwhile, an unnamed source from the Ukrainian government told Reuters that Kiev was behind the attack that took place on Russian President Vladimir Putin's birthday.
